One Last Kiss is currently stuck in my head, it’s a great song! VERDICTĮvangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time is available internationally on Prime Video. Though, what you will remember the most are the two songs by Utada Hikaru. The score is beautiful and adds to the scenes. It feels like they are purely designed for the male gaze. There are also a few unnecessary nude scenes.

The 3D animation feels rough and more like PS4 video games than what you can do with 3D animation nowadays. However, when 3D animation comes into play for a few scenes in the final act, it doesn’t work. As for the characters, they are amazingly animated. Visually, this movie is stunning! The settings are wonderful and highly detailed. For me, that’s what makes the conclusion so powerful and meaningful. The final confrontation is more focused on the emotional side than on the action side. It’s all about giving closure to the characters and for Shinji to face his father. It’s not my favorite part of the movie but it surely delivers in terms of fight scenes.įinally, in the third act, Shinji Ikari comes back on the front stage. Shinji is left aside to give the focus on Misato, Asuka, and Mari. There’s a tonal shift as the story progresses. The second act enters into the heart of the action with the big fight between WILLE and NERV. The whole point of the first act is for Shinji to accept he can’t change the past and he has to move forward. While the main character Shinji Ikari has to move on from his failure. It’s a beautiful and emotional storyline. We get to see the “fake” Rei Ayanami learning what it means to be human. That allows a deeper dive into the characters. It takes place in an intimate setting away from the frontlines – a camp of survivors. Even though the opening scene is a big action sequence (and it’s an impressive one), the first act focuses on the characters. It can take time to conclude all the different storylines. Thus, is Evangelion 3.0+1.0 really worth the wait?įirst of all, this is the longest movie of the franchise with a 155 minutes runtime (2h35 minutes). And let’s not forget, that the production was riddled with trouble. So fans have been waiting nine years to watch the conclusion. Indeed, the third chapter was released in 2012. This was a highly anticipated movie for fans of the franchise. This film marks the conclusion of the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, which is a retelling of the original series Neon Genesis Evangelion. Then on June 12, a new version of the movie was released in Japanese cinemas. It was first released in Japan on March 8th. It’s a satisfying and beautiful conclusion that focuses on its characters and saying goodbye.Įvangelion 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time was finally released internationally on Amazon Prime Video.
